Allen Schmidt was born on December 7, 1931, in Walsh, CO, to Sam and Alice (Koehn) Schmidt. He departed this life on January 10, 2024, at Sage Crest Retirement Village in Buhl, ID, reaching the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 3 days.
In 1934, his parents moved to Houston, TX, and then in 1942, they moved again to DeRidder, LA, where he finished his schooling and spent most of his life. Realizing his need of a Savior, he gave his heart to Christ and was baptized on March 5, 1944, by Minister Hiram Minniger. Dad was faithful to these vows to the end. He milked cows for his dad and hauled stumps into the stump plant.
On April 10, 1960, he married our mother, Opal (Schmidt) Schmidt. They shared life's joys and sorrows for almost 55 years. To this union were born two sons and two daughters. They lost two of these children as infants, causing them deep sorrow.
Dad spent his working years milking cows and farming. He never shied away from hard work. He enjoyed tinkering in the shop and created various toys for the young boys.
At the beginning of 2015, Dad and Mom packed up and moved to southern Idaho. Their plans of good family times were cut short when Mom passed away two weeks after they arrived. Dad continued to live on his own until he moved in with his son in 2017. Even through the hardships of life, Dad never complained.
Dad really loved to sing, and he spent many hours singing through the Christian Hymnal. After living with Lester and Joyce for seven years, Dad moved one last time to Sage Crest. He enjoyed his time there, leaving the residents and workers with many memories of his cheerful attitude and constant singing.
Those left to cherish precious memories are his son, Lester and wife Joyce, Buhl, ID; daughter, Alvina and husband Ruben Madrid, Ringwood, OK; his grandchildren, Gary (Martha), Melissa (Denny), Quinton (Renae), Kyle (Anna), Ryan (Jonie), Daphne (Gordon), and Alec (Laura); fourteen great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Velma Schmidt.
Those preceding him in death are his wife, Opal; two infant children; his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
Allen's family would like to express deep appreciation and gratitude to the Sage Crest caregivers for their compassionate care of our father and grandfather. We also appreciate the kindness shown by the hospice nurses. We would also like to give a heartfelt thank you to each one of you for your prayers and kindness shown during this time.
