Bonnie J. Sligar passed away peacefully at the age of 80 Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at a Buhl assisted living facility.
Bonnie was born October 24, 1942 to Alva and Martha (Ross) Parrott in Twin Falls, Idaho, joining three older siblings, Don, Calvin, and Ruby. She graduated from Buhl High School in 1960.
Bonnie married Herschel Bennett July 16, 1960. To this union two children were born, Lynnette and Bob. Bonnie & Herschel were later divorced. Bonnie married Rodney Sligar on December 15, 1978. They remained together until his passing in 1995.
There are two dates of importance in a person’s life. The first is the date of birth and the second is the date of death. The dash between represents life’s adventures and life’s memories. Mom’s dash was very full and fulfilling for her.
Mom enjoyed being busy in life. Some of her favorite hobbies and past times were hunting, fishing, camping and crafts with the grandchildren, oil painting at Norma’s, playing canasta, pinochle, or bingo with family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending her weekends at her cabin in Murphy’s Hot Springs with family and friend, Beverly.
Mom’s work history included cooking at Sunset Bowl and the Juvenile Detention Center. She also owned and operated Sligar’s Catering and Sligar’s Lawn Mowing Service with Lynnette. She found her passion when she was hired in 2004 as head cook at the West End Senior Center. She was a valuable asset who founded, volunteered, and hosted many events including Wednesday bingo and the turkey bingo fundraiser. In whatever capacity, whether work or life, mom was always willing to step up where needed.
Bonnie is survived by daughter Lynnette (David) Butler; son, Bob Bennett and daughter-in-law, Terri Bennett; grandchildren Levi (Stacy) Bennett, Denum (Robby) Kolb, Darren Butler, & Christina Butler; great-grandchildren Charli & Arazona Bennett, Dominic Kolb, and Dakota Bennett; brother Calvin (Fay) Parrott; brother-in-law, Walt Wagner.
Bonnie was preceded in by husband, Rodney Sligar; brother and sister-in-law Don (Joyce) Parrott; sister, Ruby Wagner; parents Alva and Martha Parrott.
And now, mom, you have had your life’s adventures and because of you, we as a family have your life’s memories. Thank you! You will be missed.
