Bonnie Kay Smazal of Glendale, Arizona, born May 17, 1955, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Erhardt (Fritz) Herman Gier and Laura Emma (Jagels) Gier, passed away at her home, Thursday, January 18, 2024.
Bonnie attended Clover Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Buhl High School in 1973. She graduated from Idaho State University with a B.B.A. Degree in Accounting in 1977. It was then that she went on to work for Home Federal Savings and Loan, Farmers National Bank, in Twin Falls, followed by GMAC, and finally Vertice, in Glendale, Arizona.
She married Bill Smazal, December 3, 1978. Bill passed away February 20, 2002. While Bonnie and Bill were married, they loved traveling. They enjoyed visiting numerous cities and explored the sites available to them and Disney World many times. After Bills passing, she was able to continue traveling with friends.
Bonnie was a quality seamstress and gifted at crochet. She made a lot of gifts, whether it be mittens, afghans, beanies, or wraps. She never passed up an opportunity to crochet for nieces, nephews, the many children she wanted to help, plus anybody that wanted gifts and donations. You had to see her quality crafted products to really appreciate. Bonnie was a great cook and she could whip up a mouth watering meal. She had a collection of cookbooks to go along with her culinary expertise. She always looked for a good book to read! If you were friends on Facebook, you saw her in pajamas, along with the rest of the family at Neal’s house on Christmas. She really loved to go to craft shows to find wonderful treasures.
Bonnie was a loving, outgoing woman who cherished her neighbors and friends. Bonnie was blessed to have wonderful friends and neighbors who looked out for her.
Bonnie is survived by a loving brother, Glen (LaJune) Gier; loving brother, Neal (Debi) Gier; nephew, Terry Gier; niece, Christi Hollifield, and their children.
