Charles Edward "Ed" Moore, 84, of Buhl, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Desert View Care Center in Buhl.
Ed had a long battle with dementia and is now with his extended family and especially his wife Phyliss, who passed on Dec. 24, 2012.
Ed was born on Sept. 19, 1928 in Joplin, Missouri to John Riley Moore and Myrtle (McCullough) Moore. He spent his childhood in Missouri until 1935, when his family moved to Buhl, Idaho. Ed grew up with his six sisters and four brothers and attended Buhl schools. He enjoyed running track and playing basketball, which he continued to play on the recreation leagues.
He married Barbara Martin in Elko, Nevada on Sept. 20, 1949. They had a child that died at birth, they were later divorced. Ed then met Joann Rassmussen and they married May 1, 1954 in Twin Falls, to this union, a son Tom and daughter Lori, were born. Ed and Joann later divorced and he married Phyliss (Martin) Thompson on May 29, 1967. They spent 45 wonderful years together living in Twin Falls, Buhl, Battleground, Wa., Paul and Rupert, returning to Buhl in 2000. Of this union Ed helped raise Phyliss's children, Archie Lynn Thompson and daughter Theda May Share. He later helped raise granddaughter Athena and treated her as his own child, they all say they could not have had a better father figure.
Ed worked for United Co-op of Buhl and in Battleground, Wa., before becoming the manager of the Buhl store and helping start a new store in Rupert. Ed also drove fuel delivery for the store, which led to a job for Kerb's Oil in Burley, Id.
Ed was a member of the Idaho National Guard for 12 years. In his younger years, his biggest passion was training and riding horses in local riding clubs and cow cutting contests with his brother George. Ed has a special horse Pokey, which he talked about often.
He is survived by one brother, Eugene Moore; son, Tom (Jeanne) Moore of Rexburg; daughter, Lori (Steve) Ridley of Filer, Theda (Doug) Share of Buhl; granddaughters, Melissa (Scott) Brandhagen, Melinda (Jacob) Hammond, Tiffany (Cody) Bridwell, Whitney Ridley, Callie Ridley, Shiloe (Dave) Goodliffe, Paige Moore, Talon Moore, Athena (Jim) Sabala, Deana (Brock) Tvrdy, Morgan (Tim) Breck, Savanna Share, Tawnie Share, Hollye Lierman and Elisabeth (Cory) McDonald; grandsons, Casey Ridley, Ian Moore, Chance Share, Joe Thompson and Rustin Thompson and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyliss; his parents, infant child, six sisters, Gladys, Minnie, Vada, Golda, Artha and Grace; three brothers, George, John, Leroy and step-son, Archie Thompson.
A graveside service honoring both Ed and Phyliss's lives will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at the West End Cemetery in Buhl. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl.
