Dale Eugene VanWinkle
Passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at his home in Buhl, Idaho, from an unexpected Cardiac Event.
Dale was born at his rural home in Republic County, Kansas, on June 14, 1922, to George and Nettie
(Cozine) VanWinkle. He was the eighth and youngest sibling of the Family.
Dale always had traveling in his blood. Unfortunately his travel took him to England for World War
Two. He flew as the Tail Gunner in the B17. He was shot down over Germany and became a POW. He
did survive and came home to the love of his life Flora (Hensley) VanWinkle, and their first Child, Cheryl
Goodwin of Filer, ID, soon following; Gary (Dustie) VanWinkle of Buhl, ID, Dennis (Margie) VanWinkle
of Borrego Springs, Ca, Steve (Mary) VanWinkle of Omaha NE, and Kirk (Alex) VanWinkle of Gold Canyon
AZ. All are surviving except Flora his wife of 67 years.
Dale worked for Boeing Aircraft for over 20 years. Helping to put the first man on the moon was one of
his proudest moments. After the hectic life of corporate work, Dale returned to his roots. Farming was
always his favorite occupation. He was very good at it. Dale and Flora retired and spent many happy
years chasing the sun. Dale loved golf, dancing, travel, and playing cards. He was an active member of
the Bourbon Street Gang in Apache Junction, AZ. They were some of his best friends.
Dale is survived by one sister Wilma (Woodside); six other siblings preceding him in death are brothers;
Virgil, Gerald, Harold, and Kenny, sisters; Arlene, (Sommers), and Ardath (Butts).
Dale and Flora have 10 grandchildren. Young Dale (Dennis) preceded him in death. 13 great
grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. July 2, 2014 at Farmers Funeral Chapel, 130 Ninth Ave N. Buhl,
Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel of Buhl, Idaho.
