Dennis E. Wheeler
August 13, 1950 ~ January 19, 2021
Dennis Eugene Wheeler passed away at his home in Filer, Idaho on January 19, 2021. He was born August 13, 1950 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Thomas and Loretta Wheeler. He graduated from Castleford High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Boise State University and a master’s degree from Portland State University.
He worked for the Idaho State Industrial Commission for several years and many of us remember him as “Mr. Wheeler the 6th grade teacher” in Buhl.
Even while battling Multiple Myeloma the last four years, he continued serving on the Board of the T-Craft Aero Club in Nampa, until his death. He had been a member of T-Craft since November of 1978 and was one of its founding members.
Dennis had a grand love of flying. He was an avid pilot and adventurer, leading many river float trips and flying into the back country of the Idaho forests, often landing on sketchy terrain (including “Gramma Marie’s” lane). He attended many annual “fly-ins” at Orcas Island in Washington. Many family members have their own tale of an adventure with him. He truly had his wings before he got his heavenly birthday.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Vernon Wheeler.
He is survived by his mother, Loretta Wheeler of Boise; son, Tyson Wheeler of Mesa, Arizona; granddaughter, Addison Wheeler of Mesa, Arizona; and his sisters, Carolyn Jones, Christine (John) Morcom both of Boise; and Debby (Dick) Svancara of Buhl.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, January 29, 2021 at Farmer Funeral Chapel, 130 9th Ave North, Buhl.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through Farmer Funeral Chapel.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Dennis’ memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.
