Doris Lee Kramer, 91, of Castleford, Idaho, passed away at her home on July 25, 2024. Doris was born on July 18, 1933, to Ray and Fern Crisp. She joined an older brother Carl to make their little family complete. They lived in the Buhl area during her childhood and later moved to Castleford. Doris attended Castleford High School where she made many friends and met a handsome boy named Don Kramer. There were always great stories about football games, dances, bus rides and other school activities. Don and Doris became an “item” and soon were High School Sweethearts.
After graduation, Doris went to the University of Idaho for a semester before she realized her heart was with Don. They were married on December 28, 1952. Don was attending college at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, so off to California they went. Life was fun for the new couple, but then Don was drafted into the Army and left for Germany. Doris was expecting their first child, so she moved back to live with her parents. Their son, Terry, was 18 months old before his dad returned from his tour in Germany.
Don and Doris settled in Castleford, where Don farmed, and Doris spent her time taking care of Terry and running her household. The family grew when they had another son, Kevin, and later a daughter, Jana. Shortly after Jana was born, they moved onto the Kramer family farm and Doris remained in the same house until her passing. She was a dutiful wife and mother and took great pride in her home and family.
Doris was active in the Castleford Methodist Church for her entire adult life, teaching Sunday School, attending UMW meetings, helping with potlucks and church dinners, and working in the Church’s Community Garden. She was a charter member of the Castleford Petal Pals Flower Club, raising, showing, and arranging beautiful flowers for the Twin Falls County Fair each year. When her first grandchild was born, she joined the Castleford Grandmothers Club and enjoyed many wonderful years with her fellow grandmothers of the community.
Don died in 1998, and Doris was left with a void that never went away. Although she stayed busy attending her grandchildren’s school activities, visiting friends, and maintaining her home, she missed Don every day. We know they are finally together again.
She was known as Doris to some, Doris Lee to a few, Mom, Grandma D, or Auntie Doris, but whatever we knew her as, she loved her home, her family, and her community with all of her heart. Celebrate, remember, and honor Doris for a life well lived, a loving heart, and a kind spirit that will continue on in those who knew and loved her.
Doris is survived by her children, Terry (Kathleen) Kramer, Kevin Kramer, and Jana (Rick) Rodgers; as well as her grandchildren/great-grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica), Ellia and Jace Kramer, Ben (Danielle), Livia and Easton Rodgers, Wesley (Lauren), Ember and Braxon Rodgers, Rachel (Austin), Amelia, Remi, Bodie and Lane Puschel and Allison (Craig), Lola McGee. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Karen Rasmussen and LaVonne Crisp; along with many wonderful and special cousins, nieces, and nephews.
We would like to thank the staff of Visions Hospice, Kirsten McHenry, Carol, and the Wells Family for their kindness, compassionate care, and love for mom. A special thanks to Kevin for moving in with mom so she could remain in her home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am, Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Castleford Methodist Church, 303 Elm Street, Castleford. Burial will conclude at the West End Cemetery, 1574 E Elm St, Buhl.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Wolfpup Preschool at Castleford Schools, the Castleford QRU, or the Castleford Methodist Church.
