Edith Sickle

July 13, 1926 — January 7, 2016

Edith Van Sickle, 89, of Buhl, died on January 7, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born July 13, 1926 in Roseworth, Id. to parents, N.R. and Wilma Hunt.

She grew up in Mellon Valley where she attended the first eight years of school in the one room Melon Valley School. She graduated from Buhl High School in 1944.

Edith married Jack Jex Van Sickle on Dec. 28, 1948 and later, they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Their first years were spent in Nampa, Idaho where their oldest two children were born. They moved to Buhl and bought forty acres. Six more children were added to their family. Edith resided in the family home for over 60 years.

Edith loved nature and being outdoors. She loved to garden and preserve the food she grew. She loved to travel and flying was a thrill for her. She loved to write poetry and had a great sense of humor. She was well known for the rag rugs she crocheted and gave as gifts. Her family was most important to her.

Edith was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served all of her life in many callings. She served three missions to; San Diego, Ca., Jacksonville, Fl. and Melborne, Australia. She served for over 28 years as a temple worker in the Boise and Twin Falls Temples.

She is survived by her eight children, Ann (David) Harman of Rochester, NY., Melode Burnett Simper of Grandview, Id., Shauna (Delbert) Bennett and Shari (David) Bell of Albion, Id., Ervid (Connie) Van Sickle of Hazelton, Id., Rocky (Buffy) Van Sickle, Lucy (Jim) Reaman, Reba (Dudley) Henson of Buhl, Id.; 27 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Jex Van Sickle; three grandchildren, Jeremy Van Sickle, Jana Bell Thorton, Shandra Bennett and two sons-in-law, Danny Burnett and Vaugh Simper.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at the L.D.S. Church (501 Main St.) In Buhl. A viewing will be 10 - 10:50 a.m. at the church before the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl.
