Gary Authur Knudson passed away on May 2, 2024, at the age of 84, in his home with his family by his side. Gary was born November 5, 1939, in Hollister, Idaho, to Arthur E. Knudson and Virginia Ruth (Human) Knudson. He was the oldest of four brothers.
Gary worked on the family dairy farm and went to Castleford School where he graduated in 1958. Before he graduated, he earned his pilot’s license in 1956 and enjoyed flying. After graduation, Gary went to trade school at ISU and received his FAA Power Plant license in aircraft mechanics.
Gary found the love of his life, Doris E. Jaynes and they were married December 26, 1961, in Elko, Nevada.
Gary enlisted in the Army and after boot camp he went to Fort Campbell where he became a paratrooper in the 101st airborne division, “The Screaming Eagles”. While in the army they had their first child Micheal on April 15, 1963.
After the Army, Gary moved his little family back to Idaho and after various jobs they settled on the family farm in Buhl, where they had five more children, Craig, Donnie, Doug, Casey, and Eric.
Gary was a member of the Followers of Christ Church and followed in his dad’s footsteps becoming a minister, where he enjoyed serving his congregation.
Gary was preceded in death by his spouse, Doris; son, Eric; parents, Art and Ruth; and all his brothers, Kent, Lonnes, and Charles (Chuck).
He is survived by his sons, Micheal (Jennifer), of Hailey, Craig (Marisa), of North Dakota, Donnie (Grace), of Twin Falls, Doug (Lisa) of Buhl, and Casey (Teja) of Shoshone; seven grandchildren, Caleb, Brittney (Jordan), Isaac, Nate (Keeli), Kyla, Bethany, and Ian; and two great grandchildren, Stetson, and Oaklynn.
Dad was a quiet and private man. He loved the smell of freshly tilled earth and the smell of wheat at harvest. The site of straight rows and water running in the corrugates pleased him. The site of the Sawtooth mountains and the Idaho sunsets. Dad also loved to visit with anyone about anything, but what brought a twinkle in his eye with the biggest smile was talking about his grand kids.
