James Allen Smither Senior (aka "Smithers") passed away on May 16, 2013 at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Julia (JC) Smither of Buhl, ID; three sisters, Jan Hill of Niles, OH, Nancy Fritch of Brighton, MI and Salli Rinker of Tucson, AZ; two sons, James A Smither II of Calimesa, CA and Edward W. Smither of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; three step-children, Hubert White of Phoenix, AZ, Diane Holladay of Buhl, ID and Terry White of Gooding, ID; and ten grandchildren.
Born in Warren, OH, Smithers joined the Marine Corps at the age of 17. He served 15 years in the Corps including operations in Cuban waters during the Cuban missile crisis and multiple tours in Vietnam. After leaving the Corps, he worked as an aircraft mechanic and shop foreman at General Electric before retiring to Buhl.
Smithers spent the last 20 years of his life residing in Buhl with his wife, JC. Over the years, he acquired numerous friends, all of which knew him for his willingness to help with anything. He had a knack for repairing motors, a passion for his yard work, and a joke for every occasion. Smithers loved to fish, enjoyed watching NASCAR, and a good game of pool.
Of all the titles Smithers held throughout his years, "Grandpa" is the one he is most known for. He loved spending time with all of his grandchildren; leaving them with permanent smiles on their faces, and the wonder of whether or not all of his tales were true.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28tt at the Smither residence at 1937 E., 4100 N.(Pole Line Road) Buhl, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl.
