Janice June Thoene

November 5, 1934 — August 30, 2024

BUHL

Janice Thoene was born November 5, 1934, and was the eldest child to John Henry Taylor and Catherine Jeanette “June” Deininger Taylor in Chillicothe, Ohio, and died August 30, 2024, in Buhl, Idaho. She was surrounded by her many family members from Idaho, California, and Salt Lake City.

As a young woman, she was described as “the life of the party” by her future husband, Jacob Hoogland. They married in 1954, and from this union, she had five children, Jeff (LaDawn) Hoogland, Jacquelyn Hoogland, Jana Kay Hoogland Juker, Jeri Hoogland Griggs and Jonnie Hoogland (Joe) Baza. She also had a daughter, Barbara Caldwell, who was given up for adoption after her birth, and in 2003 they were reunited. Jackie died at the age of two from a drowning accident in 1958.

Jan worked many of her years in grocery stores as a stocker and cashier, and she loved her job. She also worked several years as a parts clerk at Three Way Chevrolet in Bakersfield, California, where she retired.

She was known as “Grandma Biah” for many years for her grandson Wesley’s baseball team. She was the team’s biggest fan. Jan was also an avid bowler. She participated in several state bowling tournaments in Idaho and won a few tournament categories.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie; brother, John Taylor; and her parents.

She is survived by her brothers, Richard Taylor and Joe Taylor; and sister Judy Wise. She is also survived by her children; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.

We often blamed her for starting this colorful family.

As per her request, she didn’t want a funeral. She wanted her family to have a party! This is tentatively scheduled for July 4, 2025.

Mother will be greatly missed. But we know she has been reunited with Jackie in Heaven as with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Jan’s memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.
