Jose Bettencourt

Jose Silveira Bettencourt, "Tio Cunha," 90, of Buhl, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at his home.

Jose was born on June 12, 1925 to Jose and Maria Bettencourt in Santo Amaro, Sao Jorge, Azores. In his lifetime, Jose has worked at many different jobs, which included, serving in the Portuguese military from 1944-1947, working at a nursery in Half Moon Bay, California and Milking Cows in Chino, California. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Jose is survived by his wife of 68 years, Adelina; seven children, Alice (Joe) Faial of Jerome, Amarantina Bettencourt of Buhl, Nelia (Jose) Perez of Washington, Joe (Avelina) Bettencourt of Buhl, Fatima Silva of Buhl and Maria (Tony) Wiggan of Buhl; grandchildren, Fernanda Stobart of Jerome, Alice (Art) Nunes of Oakley, Paula (Colby) Cunningham of Buhl, Florentino (Brittany) Chavez, Emanuel Chavez, Lisa Chavez and Linda Chavez of Washington, Elizabeth (Chris) Caldwell, Veronica (Bryce) Harvey of Twin Falls, Robert (Janna) Bettencourt of Buhl, Jorge Silva, James (Talisa) Silva of Fontana, CA, William Coe of Pomona, CA and Monique Wiggan of Buhl and great grandchildren, Branden Chyenne and Dyllan Stobart, Ashley, Victoria and Joel Nunes, Nicolas, Shawnda, Jessika, Jayson and Melenie Cunningham, Broc, Easton and Addylynn Caldwell, Donovon, Sarahi, Valeria, Sydney and Xander Harvey, Logan Silva, Ariel Aguilar and coming soon,Paul Bettencourt.

Jose was preceded in death by his daughter, Idalina Borges.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Buhl Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. No graveside services are planned.
