Kathy Ann Hansen

December 13, 1959 — January 5, 2025

Buhl

Kathy Ann Hansen, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on January 5, 2025, at the age of 65 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Kathy possessed many amazing qualities, some of which included patience, generosity, intelligence, and supportiveness. There was nothing she would not do for the people she loved.

Kathy was born on December 13, 1959, in San Diego, California, to David and Lucille Venable. Kathy valued education and obtained both a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Inspired by her father’s military service,

Kathy joined the Navy in 1987, after finishing nursing school. While in the Navy, she rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant Commander and served for 20 years. Kathy continued to pursue her education during her service and obtained a Master’s degree in Health and Wellness. While serving in the military, she met a fellow service member, Cole Hansen, who would later become her husband.

Kathy and Cole married on March 21, 1992, in Seattle, Washington. One year later, they welcomed their first child, Tyler, and a few years later, their second child, Jenna. Following her retirement from the Navy, Kathy and her family moved to Idaho, where she worked at St. Luke’s as a psychiatric nurse for 17 years. Kathy’s hobbies throughout her life included spending time with her family and pets, swimming, and gardening. Although she did not have the greenest thumb, she loved to garden and would spend hours each day during the summer caring for her plants. Kathy would admit that she was not very tech-savvy; however, she was very skilled at online shopping and enjoyed collecting beautiful sweaters. Kathy was happiest when giving to her loved ones and spending quality time with her family.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lucille; and brother, David.

She is survived by her husband, Cole; children, Tyler and Jenna; daughter-in-law, Jessica; grandchildren, Penelope and Beckham; and pets, Angus, Zoey, Lucy, Desi, and Jiji, whom she referred to as her “other kids.”

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Kathy's name to the WEMA Buhl Food Pantry, 910 Maple, Buhl, Idaho 83316.

The family will have a private graveside service at Snake River Canyon National Cemetery. No other public services are planned.
