Lieutenant Colonel Michael L. Sweeney, USMC (Ret.), 84, died at home on May 4, 2021.
Mike was born in Denison, Texas, and grew up in Durant, Oklahoma. After graduating from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He was an infantry officer who served in Viet Nam where he was awarded three Bronze Stars with Combat V.
On a cross country trip to a new assignment in Washington DC, the Sweeney family visited Idaho and decided it would be home someday. When Mike retired from the Marine Corps they moved to Buhl where he was active in local organizations including the West End Men’s Association. Golfing with friends at the Clear Lake Country Club was a favorite activity for many years.
Surviving Mike are his wife, Ann; daughter, Patricia (Todd); daughter-in-law, Betsy; grandchildren, Ellen (James), Daniel, Beckett, Nathaniel and Maura.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Christopher.
Funeral service with military honors will be held 11:00 am, Friday, July 30, 2021 at the Snake River Canyon National Cemetery, 1585 East Elm St. Buhl, Idaho.
