Nadine Woodruff

May 24, 1919 — August 12, 2021

BUHL

Nadine Messley Woodruff of Buhl, Idaho, went to be with our Lord, August 12, 2021, at River Rock Assisted Living. She leaves behind a legacy of 102 years filled with love, laughter, and tears.

Nadine was born May 24, 1919 in Berthoud, Colorado to Walter and Gladys Clark Messley. She was the first born of six children. The family traveled to many locations following seasonal harvests, finally settling in Buhl, Idaho, when she was five years old. She graduated from Buhl High School, Class of 1938.

On August 9, 1941, her marriage to Earl Woodruff, at the First Christian Church of Buhl, started the beginning of her life as a farmwife, that lasted for over fifty years until dad’s passing in 1995. Their first child, Denny, was born in 1942, followed by Aletha in 1944. Anita was born in 1954, completing the family. Mom’s love for God was the center of who she was. Some of her greatest joys were her children, daughter-in-law, Carolyn, and sons-in-law, Nick, Tom, and Phil. Her family grew with many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Watching them grow and find their paths in this world was a great comfort and blessing to her. Each one having their own special place in her heart. She especially wanted her sister, brothers, nieces and nephews, to know how grateful she was for each of them.

Her life will always be a Christian example to all who knew her. In her final years at River Rock, her caretakers were added to our family. We sincerely express our grateful appreciation to River Rock and Hospice Visions for the love, compassion, and dignity that you gave mom.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Woodruff; son, Denny Woodruff; son-in-law, Tom Svancara; brother, Linton Messley; and sister, Lorna Strolberg.

Nadine is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Aletha (Nick) Day, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Anita (Phil Blick) Svancara, of Castleford, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Carolyn (Denny-deceased) Woodruff, of Ontario, Oregon; siblings, Melva (Gene-deceased) Johnson, of Hansen, Idaho; Leman (Inez) Messley, of Boise, Idaho; and Lowell (Carol-deceased) Messley, of Star, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.

A witness to mom’s humor was found in her papers. At the top she had written, “I love this (for fun)”. ‘If I ever reach heaven, I expect to find three wonders there: first to meet some I had not thought to see: second to miss some I had expected to see there; and third, the greatest wonder of all, to find myself there.’ By John Newton.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at West End Cemetery, 1574 East 4150 North, Buhl.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Visions in Nadine’s name, 1770 Parkview Dr. Twin Falls, Idaho, or a charity of your choice.
