Pearl Arlene Kooiman, age 79, was called into God's service August 4, 2014. She died peacefully at her
home surrounded by family. The Kooiman family wishes to thank Alliance Hospice for their wonderful
and loving care of Pearl during her illness.
Pearl was born October 12, 1934, in Sanborn, Iowa, to Joe and Pearl Vander Veen. She
graduated from Bellflower Christian School in Bellflower, California, in 1953. She married Al Kooiman on
July 21, 1955, in Artesia, California. Al & Pearl lived in Phoenix for 19 years, and moved to their current
home in Buhl in 1977.
She had a passion for music and served as a church organist for 45 years, including at the Twin
Falls Reformed Church, Twin Falls First Baptist Church, First Christian Reformed Church in Artesia, and
the Phoenix Christian Reformed Church. Pearl also worked as a cook at the West End Senior Center for
15 years and as a bookkeeper for the Kooiman dairy.
Some of Pearl's favorite things, other than being a grandma, were counted cross-stitch, sudoku,
watching baseball, reading, and peanut brittle. She was a member of the Twin Falls Reformed Church
since 1977, and was a loyal member of Bible Study Fellowship and Sunshine Circle.
Pearl is survived by her husband, Al; her children, Andy (wife Surette), James, and Jenifer; and
granddaughters Hannah and Halie.
A viewing will be held at Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl on Friday, August 8, from 4 to 7 pm. On
Saturday, August 9, a burial service will be held at West End Cemetery in Buhl at 1:30 pm, followed by a
3:00 pm memorial service at Twin Falls Reformed Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mustard Seed Food Bank, 702 Main Avenue N,
Twin Falls, ID 83301.
