Robert “Bob” Grond, 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 25, 2024. Bob struggled with his health for many years, and it was more than his body could handle. Thankfully, he made it to his 80th birthday where he got to celebrate with his family. He was quite happy because he was able to have his favorite, chocolate milk, along with cake and ice cream!
Bob was born on May 10, 1944, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Neil and Mary Grond. When Bob was still a young boy his family made the trek west to Southern California.
Bob graduated from Valley Christian High School, Pierce Junior College in Southern California, and Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science. In high school and college, Bob met several life-long friends. While in Utah, Bob worked on a large cattle ranch and remained friends with the owners for over fifty years.
After college, Bob moved back to California where he met his wife, Theresa Wiersma, in Southern California and they were married on July 31, 1971, in her hometown of Modesto, California. They moved to Grants Pass, Oregon and lived there for 20 years. Bob and Theresa co-owned a dairy with his sister and brother-in-law while in Grants Pass. In addition to tending to the dairy herd, one of Bob’s favorite things to do was to put on hayrides for schools, 4-H clubs, and churches.
In 1994, the couple moved to Idaho, where Bob did dairy related work for several years. Bob then “semi-retired”, as he referred to it, with a job on the custodian staff at College of Southern Idaho, until fully retiring about ten years ago. In both Oregon and Idaho, Bob enjoyed watching his sons play sports, helping with 4-H and FFA activities, church activities, and most any type of social gatherings with friends and family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Niel and Mary Grond; sister, Janet VanLeeuwen; and his wife, Theresa Grond.
Bob is survived by his sons, Michael (Becky), David (BreeAnn), and Stephen (Kay); sister, Kay (Andy) DeVries; and grandchildren, Joseph, Colt, Payton, Hannah and Noah; along with 17 nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Farmer Funeral Chapel, 130 9th Avenue North, Buhl, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking anyone who would like to honor Bob’s memory to donate to the Mustard Seed Thrift Store and Community Services. Cash donations can be mailed to 702 Main Avenue North, Twin Falls, Idaho, 83301.
