Rocky Sickle

November 22, 1957 — October 26, 2016

Rocky Ralston Van Sickle passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at his home in Buhl, in the arms of his wife, Buffy, and surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Rocky was born on November 22, 1957, in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Jack Jex and Edith (Hunt) Van Sickle. He was raised in Buhl. He loved being outdoors and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, building cars and riding motorcycles. He loved his guns and shooting. He raised many animals with his favorite being the ostriches. Rocky had a green thumb and enjoyed planting his garden each year. He had an orchard with a wide variety of fruit and nut trees, along with rare plants. One of his talents was being self sufficient. He canned the food he grew and made jams and jellies, in which he won ribbons for, and blessed others with.

Rocky worked at Western Auto and Green Giant during his high school years. He graduated from CSI in 1978, second in his class with a degree in diesel mechanics. He worked as a shop foreman in Twin Falls, Boise and Burley. He owned his own trucking company for several years. He bought his parents salvage yard and spent many hours up on "the hill."

On February 28, 1981, Rocky married Julie Munk and together they had five amazing children, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Kaitlin, Kevin and Brendan. They later divorced.

On October 15, 2008, Rocky married his best friend and eternal companion, Buffy Harvey. They were later sealed in the Twin Falls temple. The love they shared was evident to anyone who knew them. They had a beautiful relationship. They brought joy and peace to one another each day and made the most out of every minute they spent together. Buffy will miss her gentle giant.

Rocky is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings throughout the years, a few of which were Sunday school teacher, seminary president and assistant Scout Master. He loved his Savior and his testimony was powerful.

Rocky suffered from multiple health issues, including MS and a recent diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. During his most challenging hours, he did not complain. He was blessed by Buffy's ability to care for him at home and she was blessed by his unwavering faith.

Rocky is survived by his spouse, Buffy; children, Jeffrey, Kaitlin (Ismael), Kevin and Brendan (Becca) and grandchildren, Ethan, Jonas and Kolevan.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy; parents, Jack and Edith Van Sickle and many more loved ones.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at the Thousand Springs Ward, in Buhl. A viewing will be held between 10:00 and 11:15 a.m, prior to the service, also at the church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hammond and Dr. Nofziger for the excellent care and friendship they provided. A special thanks to Hospice Visions for the comfort and love given to Rocky and his family. Thank you Carl, Steve and Mike.
