Rolando "Randy" C. Villaro, 72, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, surrounded by family.
Born March 4, 1952, in the warmth of his family home in Manila, Philippines, he was the youngest child of Aderita C. Villaro and Arcadio Villaro. Rolando brought light, laughter, and an elegant charm to the world around him. He was an accomplished and important resident of Wheaton, Illinois, who will be greatly missed.
Despite being vision impaired, by meningitis of the brain in his youth, Rolando lived life with a vivid spirit and a sharp wit. Dressed to impress, and never shying away from accepting compliments. He left an unforgettable mark on those who knew him. Known for his humor, he could effortlessly brighten a room, often sharing jokes that were equal parts endearing and unapologetically candid.
Rolando came to the United States in 1974, along with his mother, and he reunited with his siblings to start his life here in America. After attending Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, he had hopes to pursue more education in the United States to establish his life and independence. Randy operated a cafeteria in the Aurora courthouse, then eventually ran his business of maintaining vending machines around the west Chicagoland area, retiring with many accomplishments and certificates. Although Randy lived with a disability, he never let it hold him back from pursuing any challenge.
Rolando had a special bond with his nieces and nephews, he offered his home and opportunity to work alongside him in his multiple businesses. His relationship with the children in his family was full of sweetness, and endless teasing, perfectly encapsulating his playful nature and the genuine affection he had for those around him.
Life presented Randy with significant challenges. He experienced the profound loss of the four caretakers who supported him through different phases of his life, one being his life partner, John Becht, who passed in 2006. Together, Randy and John had an admiration for eloquent gatherings, travel, photography, art, and evenings out at either a nice restaurant or sophisticated cocktail lounge. Through so much loss, Randy’s resilience and humor remained constant, a testament to his strength of character.
Randy is remembered for his colorful personality, his knack for storytelling, and his ability to find joy in life’s imperfections. Though he occasionally crossed boundaries in his humor, those who knew him understood it came from a place of love and his own unique perspective on the world.
