Ronald L. Bishop passed away at home early Saturday morning, March 5, 2022 at the age of 85.
He was born February 10, 1937 at this grandmother’s house in Filer during a heavy snowstorm. He was the second of three sons born to Vern and Lela Bishop.
The family lived in Twin Falls until they moved to a farm in the Castleford area in 1948.
He graduated from high school there and then attended the University of Idaho where he earned his B.A. degree in Industrial Arts. He taught school in Idaho Falls, Carlin, Nevada, Castleford and at C.S.I.
In 1961, he married Shirley West, together they had three children, Bonnie, Steven, and John. In 1974, Ron and family started farming in the Blue Gulch area, which was taken out of brush under the Desert Entry Act. He purchased a farm near Castleford in 1990 where he farmed until he was 80 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Lela Bishop; and two brothers, Jim and Gary Bishop. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Bonnie (John) Traughber of Wendell; sons, Steve (Stephanie) Bishop, and John Bishop, both of Castleford; eight grandchildren, Conrad, Clayton, Brook, Challis, Chase, Dawson, Ronnie and Piper; four “adopted” grandchildren, Bridget, Stephanie, Tim, and Tyler Traughber; and seven great grandchildren that Ron called the “little ones”.
We want to give a special thanks to Herb and Sandy Caudill and Randall and Bethene Brewer for being lifelong friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 at Farmer Funeral Chapel, 130 9th Ave. North, Buhl. Interment will be at West End Cemetery in Buhl following the service.
