William “Bill” Sawers passed away at home December 10, 2021 at the age of 75. Bill was born in Yuma, Arizona to Lloyd and Mabel Sawers as a “surprise” after three other children. Bill joined his brother, Robert “Bob” who was just getting out of the service, and his sisters, Bonnie and Barbara. The family was soon increased to include his nieces, Roberta “Robbie”, Bonnie, and Carie. All of whom insisted on following, annoying, and calling after “Uncle Billy, Uncle Billy”.
Bill enjoyed many adventures with his best friend for life, Tommy Thompson. Bill’s parents passed away when he was in high school, so Tommy’s parents watched out for him. He continued on his own to finish high school and graduated from Yuma High. Go Criminal! He then attended Arizona Western University and San Diego State where he was a member of ATO.
Bill then met his first wife, Marsha Hayes water skiing in the San Diego Bays area. Along with his new wife he gained a new family who welcomed him in as one of their own: Larry, Kevin, and Chris Hayes. Larry and Bill became lifelong friends as well as brothers. Bill and Marsha followed Larry and his wife, Susan, to Idaho where their son, Ryan, was born. Bill and Marsha later divorced. Bill met Susan “Sue” Payne in Pocatello, Idaho and they were later married. Their marriage brought Justin and Cassie into the family in Buhl, Idaho.
Bill became an electrician and joined Jim Knutz at 1000 Springs Electrical. This is where he met many community and surrounding area members. In addition, he achieved a second trade in heating and air conditioning, HVACR. He combined both sets of skills for the rest of his working life.
Bill’s favorite times were at 1000 Springs Water Sports Clubs, water skiing, putting on a ski show for Cactus Pete’s and had many hours in the company of his fellow members. He loved his boat, the club, and water skiing most of all. Oh, and Budweiser. Bill taught all of his children, grandchildren and whoever dropped by how to ski and enjoy the water. Good clean fun!
Bill is survived by his wife, Sue; sons, Ryan (Sha), Justin (Cheri) Payne; daughter, Cassie (Kent) Kearn; grandchildren, Zaydn Sawers, Chazarae Shoup, Justine and JaCee Payne, Derek Eaton, Wyatt and Jordyn Kearn; and great grandchild, Jaxyn Brunett. He is also survived by his Hayes family in Buhl; three nieces and their families of Arizona; Sue’s family: David and Rena Ferguson, Warren and Rose Ferguson and Jan and LaMar Meacham, all of eastern Idaho.
There will be a family and friends gathering from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 19, 2021 at the Bill Sawers’ residence.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Buhl Quick Response, a school athletic program or a charity of your choice.
